JADS Final Report

Abstract

The Joint Advanced Distributed Simulation Joint Test and Evaluation (JADS JT&E) was chartered by the Deputy Director, Test, Systems Engineering, and Evaluation (Test and Evaluation), Office of the Secretary of Defense (Acquisition and Technology) in October 1994 to investigate the utility of advanced distributed simulation (ADS) technologies for support of development test and evaluation (DT&E) and operational test and evaluation (OT&E). Based on its charter, JADS developed issues that were used to structure the JADS T&E approach. The first issue focused on assessing the utility ADS for T&E. The second focused on constraints, concerns and methodologies when using ADS for T&E. The third issue focused on requirements for future ADS development to improve its T&E utility. Each of the three JADS tests applied objectives and measures as appropriate to conduct its evaluation. JADS also observed or participated in other ADS activities sponsored and conducted by other agencies in an effort to narrow its focus and broaden conclusions developed in the three direct test areas. This report summarizes JADS conclusions, findings and lessons learned.
