Gust-Response Analysis of an Airplane Including Wing Bending Flexibility

Abstract

An analysis is made of the gust response (including bending moment) of an airplane having the degrees of freedom of vertical motion and wing bending flexibility and basic parameters are established. A convenient, but accurate, numerical solution of the response equations is developed which is very well suited for making trend studies. An example treated shows results which are in very good agreement with the results obtained by a more precise but more lengthy method. The method of determining a gust causing a known response is indicated and a procedure is given for determining the response of an airplane directly from the known response of another airplane by eliminating the common gust condition.
