Computed Tomography Scanner Maintenance Service Contracts

Abstract

We performed this audit in response to a DoD Hotline allegation that maintenance service contracts for computed tomography (CT) scanners were awarded without full and open competition. DOD is currently expending approximately $9 million for CT scanner maintenance service annually. This expenditure will increase each year and is projected to be about $12 million in FY 1998. We coordinated this audit with personnel of the Inspector General, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) because they had received a similar complaint in 1991.
