Program Management of the Materials and Processes Partnership for Pollution Prevention.

Abstract

This evaluation was initiated in response to a request from the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Environmental Security) to review the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence. This report is the first in a series of reports being issued by the Inspector General, DoD, in accordance with the request. The National Defense Authorization Act for FY 1999 directed that DoD use funds to develop new materials and manufacturing processes for the purpose of validating technology for installation of pollution abatement, enhancing weapons systems performance, and reducing life cycle operations and maintenance costs. This work, known as the Materials and Processes Partnership for Pollution Prevention, was to be accomplished by the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence. The FY? 1999 Conference Report appropriated $15 million for this program.
