Recipe for Calculating the Pulse Response of Dipole Antennas

Abstract

This report describes a simplified method for calculating the impulse performance of electrically long dipoles. An equivalent circuit for approximating the input impedance is derived, permitting complex impedance of the driving pulse source to be treated. MATLAB programs for the calculations are added. An experiment is described in which the short circuit output current of a charged monopole (half dipole) was oscillographed and compared with the calculated results.
