Frequency Agile Laser (FAL) Lidar Trigger and Signal Simulator Test Set

Abstract

Frequency Agile CO2 laser (FAL) is a laser-based standoff chemical sensor that was developed by Hughes Aircraft Company for ECBC. This document describes detailed design of the FAL LIDAR trigger and signal simulator test set. The test set provides burst trigger pulses, 12 laser trigger pulses, and 15 unique LIDAR return signals at 1 km. One return signal output provides peak signal amplitudes of 18 mV to 1.8 V, and the second provides output of 54 mV to 5.4 V. Purpose of this test set eliminates the need for operating the laser during hardware and software evaluation of data acquisition system.
