A Method of Calculating a Stability Boundary That Defines a Region of Satisfactory Period-Damping Relationship of the Oscillatory Mode of Motion

Abstract

A method has been derived by which a boundary can be obtained that defines a region in which there exists a satisfactory relationship between the period and damping of the lateral oscillatory mode of motion, according to any given criterion for this relationship. In addition, a method is discussed by which curves representing a constant rate of spiral divergence may be constructed. The methods as presented are applicable to both lateral stability and longitudinal stability analyses.
