Infrared Emissions Modeling. Part 1
Abstract
This report summarizes a multi-year program to analyze upper atmospheric radiance data to deduce product distributions, extract the operative kinetic mechanisms, and quantitatively determine local conditions in the emission volume. Spectral and kinetic models were used to analyze emissions from several molecules including NO, NO+, ozone, and excited nitrogen. Radiances rom the mesosphere both under equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions were analyzed. The radiance changes produced by non-equilibrium excitation mechanisms such as electrons, kinetic energy from fast atoms, and solar-induced transients at terminator were all addressed by multiple analyses during this program.
