Nanoworkbench for Analysis, Manipulation and Excitation of Individual Nanostructures

Abstract

We report about the first stage of the construction of a novel nanoworkbench, for analysis, manipulation and excitation of individual nanostructures. This system includes a unique multiple tip STM device, coupled with an SEM and with an Auger analyzer for the study of single nanostructures in ultrahigh vacuum. The construction has been focused in the following directions: (1) Designing and building of a vibration isolated ultrahigh vacuum system. (2) Software development for the STM/SEM electronics. (3) Exploration of novel tip preparation procedures.
