Experimental Hydroacoustic Deployments to Improve Estimates of Fish Guidance Efficiency

Abstract

This technical report describes results of studies conducted by the U.S. Army Engineer District, Portland, and the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center to improve hydroacoustic estimates of fish guidance efficiency (FGE) in turbine intakes with fish guidance screens. The research was conducted at Turbine 8 at Powerhouse 1 of Bonneville Dam, Washington and Oregon. Estimates of FOE based upon multiple deployments of fixed-aspect hydroacoustic transducers were compared to assess the merits of the different sampling strategies.
