Phase I Cultural Resources Survey and Archeological Inventory of the Proposed 19.3 KM (12MI) Long Stretch of Bayou Teche, Iberia Parish, Louisiana

Abstract

This document presents the results of Phase I cultural resources survey and archeological inventory of the proposed Bayou Teche project area in Iberia Parish Louisiana. This investigation included the excavation of a 19.3 km (12 miles) long stretch of the Bayou Teche channel as well as six terrestrial project items and two proposed access roads. The six terrestrial project items consisted of three proposed staging areas (Staging Areas 1 - 3) nom which dredging operations will be coordinated and three proposed disposal areas (Disposal Areas 1 - 3) that will receive spoil dredged from the river bottom. The terrestrial project items surveyed comprised a total of 41.32 ha (102.1 ac). Fieldwork for this project was completed during January of 2000 on behalf of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. New Orleans District by R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates. Inc.. pursuant to Contract DACW29-97-D-00l8. Delivery Order 24.
