Military Operations in Urban Terrain: A Survey of Journal Articles

Abstract

Urban warfare and military operations in urban terrain (MOUT) have recently assumed greater importance within the U.S. defense community. The intended audience is the increasing number of uniformed military and civilian analysts being drawn to this subject. This document abstracts 56 articles from 20 professional journals in the 1995 to 2000 timeframe. The articles variously argue the need for and the nature of MOUT, assess current preparedness, assess empirical evidence from the historical record, and identify evolving concepts from experimentation.
