A Model for Predicting Marine Corps Dental Material Requirements

Abstract

Maintenance and sustainment of assets have become a unique challenge due in part to procurement, cost, space, storage, and the constraints of transportation. Accomplishing this objective for greater battlefield mobility requires that medical and dental be outfitted with the proper equipment and supplies that are directly related to its mission and capabilities. Supplies linked to conditions and expected casualty rates will ensure that the proper assets are procured and available. The resulting study was designed to collect data to create a database useful as a tool for conducting future ADAL reviews, and for making decisions regarding adding and deleting new items. The model can be used to determine the specific supply configurations for other missions and objectives. It is also useful in determining the appropriate type and number of supply items required for the delivery of sick call dental care. As Marine Corps doctrine requires more mobile, modular, flexible, and deployable dental care systems, the NHRC model can be used in the configuration of dental supplies needed for a variety of scenarios.
