Microwave-Optical Interactive Devices

Abstract

The ASSERT Program on Microwave - Optical interactions covered a wide range of actual device development. In particular we focused to a great degree on new types of detectors and high frequency optical mixers. Included are two approaches to traveling wave phototransistors that were developed with the idea that one could achieve both high power and high speed in a novel traveling wave structure. The use of polymer waveguide to bring light into the base of a heterojunction transistor was the key element.
