Logistical Contractors on the Peacekeeping (PKO) Battlefield: A Guide for the Operational Commander

Abstract

The success of contractors on the Peacekeeping (PKO) Battlefield will require advance planning, continuous monitoring, and cooperation from the JTF Commander, his staff, and the contractor. The intent of this paper is to focus the JTF commander on the most recent problems associated with planning for and the subsequent integration of contractors during PKOs. The paper will also provide a background on how commanders have performed in planning for and employing contractors in recent operations. This paper will address the main planning and execution issues that JTF commanders must consider to enhance the logistical function of future operations. These considerations include getting contractors into the planning phase, consolidating all contracting assets, and integrating contractors into the force flow.
