DoD Statistical Report on the Military Retirement System: Fiscal 2000

Abstract

Office of the Actuary has been deluged with numerical and financial data requests. To satisfy many of these requests, an annual statistical report has been produced since 1979. In addition, there were many requests for cost estimates of specific proposed changes in military retirement and survivor benefits, i.e., "What if...?" requests with short deadlines. Want to know the average age of an E-6 retiree in 2000? The answer is in the report. Some of the fields that are tabulated and cross-tabulated are: Service, date of birth, sex, date of retirement, type of retirement (non-disabled, disabled, Reserve), retired pay grade, years of service, disability rating, pay status, gross pay, net pay, zip code, state, country, member age, survivor options, survivor elections, date of birth of spouse and/or children, survivor age, survivor costs and base amounts. In addition, active duty data by age, years of service and active pay by pay grade and pay scale and lump sum equivalents are tabulated.
