Fusion Centre Operations for Maritime Rapid Environmental Assessment

Abstract

A capability for data fusion in rapid environmental assessment (REA) operations has been developed and practiced. The concept and the steps for its realization are described in enough detail to he used as a guide to similar exercises in the future. Examples are taken from Linked Seas 2000 data fusion, the most recent, most advanced and most complex data fusion activity for military oceanography. All functions of a data fusion centre are described, from data collection over data base organization, administration, maintenance, conversion, visualization and search to placement on one or more networks. Platform independent Internet technology is used with standard software for servers and clients. An html-version of this report is included on the SACLANTCEN CD-40 with active links to the respective examples.
