LPCR Wind Vector Profile Mode for Precision Air Delivery in Adverse Weather

Abstract

The wind vector field at points in space about the expected fall trajectory of airdrop cargo can be estimated with a modified AN/APN-241 RADAR (Low Power Color RADAR) for improved point of delivery accuracy. Performance is based on the principles of Doppler meteorological RADAR, and sensitivity will extend into planetary boundary layer altitudes with so-called meteorological "Clear Air Reflectivity" opportunities. Evidence of mesoscale beta convection in light reflectivity during flight test will be analyzed to substantiate performance expectations.
