Research and Development Support for the Navy Technology Center for Safety and Survivability

Abstract

GEO-CENTERS, INC. has supported NRL research and development efforts in the fields of fuels, halon replacement, fire protection, fire modeling, and large scale fire testing. In the area of fuels, work included research on aviation and diesel fuels, fuel performance, fuel additives, copper, microbiological contamination and single fuel feasibility. Halon replacement fire research included evaluations of commercially available technologies as well as a patented technology developed by GEO-CENTERS and NRL. Small scale experiments of a gas flame being suppressed by water mist were conducted and used to validate an NRL developed model. Large scale testing focused on the reduction of shipboard damage control personnel requirements through reduced manning.
