Marching Up Country: Autonomous Warfare, A New Doctrine

Abstract

A new form of warfare is emerging due to the dominance of Joint Integrated Warfare and the dispersion of advance technology and Weapons of Mass Destruction. This new warfare is the antithesis of the dominant Joint Integrated Warfare. Best fitted for the weaker side in a modern conflict, this defensive doctrine takes in to accord both modem destructive weapons and the dispersion of those weapons to the smallest elements of an armed force. The new doctrine already exists in the military thought of those who have to plan conflict with an integrated force. A thesis and antithesis methodology shows both the potential and the weaknesses of the new doctrine. Additionally, an existing new doctrine, the Chinese doctrinal concept of Unrestricted Warfare, provides a potential synthesis.
