Procedure for Accelerated Corrosion Testing of Aluminum Honeycomb

Abstract

A testing protocol has been refined to improve the corrosion resistance testing of phosphoric acid anodized aluminum honeycomb. A comparison of different test facilities showed wide variations in the weight loss values obtained when tested per ASTM G 85 Annex A4, So2 salt spray test, cyclic. The ASTM G 85 Annex A4 test method was subsequently modified, requirements tightened or made more explicit, and a round-robin comparison of different test facilities showed a reduction in test variability.
