Capital Preservation. Preparing for Urban Operations in the Twenty-First Century.

Abstract

The 2000 Urban Operations Conference was held in Santa Monica, California, and hosted by the RAND Arroyo Center, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Marine Corps Warfighting Lab, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. The objectives of the event were to: Explain the significance of urban areas to current and future military operations. Consider and discuss methods and means of seizing, stabilizing, or controlling urban areas in the 21st century. Identify technology requirements across the spectrum of urban operations. Identify C4ISR requirements inherent in military urban operations and ways of meeting those requirements.
