Europe in 2001: Identity, Architecture, and Commitment

Abstract

My subject today is Europe, from an American point of view. This means I shall draw on recent American sources. My aim is: * to postulate where Europe is today, * to sketch where Europe is heading, * to note the abiding American interest in Europe, and * to point to common challenges. Since we are in a university setting, I want to draw you into the discussion, and to draw out your views.
