Molecular Markers of Metastasis in Ductile Mammary Carcinoma

Abstract

The long-term goal of this project is the early detection of breast cancers that are prone to develop metastasis. In this project, representational difference analysis (RDA) was used to identify the genetic alterations related to the progression of metastatic development in breast cancer. In addition to the previously reported two metastasis associated gene sequences (MAGS), we have identified a novel candidate gene sequence (MAGS IV) that was found to be associated with tumorigenicity and possibly metastasis. All these MAGS are being characterized further to use as DNA markers for breast metastasis.
