Novel Radiopharmaceuticals for Radioguided Surgery of Ductal Carcinoma In Situ of the Breast

Abstract

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is an early stage of breast cancer in which cancer cells remain confined by the basement membrane of the ducts. DCIS is treated by surgery combined with local radiotherapy. The surgeon has difficulty however in accurately defining the disease margins which may lead to re-excision or recurrent DCIS which can in some cases advance to invasive breast cancer. Our objective is to develop novel radiopharmaceuticals for radioguided surgery (RGS) of DCIS to improve the surgical management.
