Multimedia Information Systems

Abstract

This report contains the proceedings of the MIS 2001, the 7th workshop on Multimedia Information Systems. MIS 2001 is the seventh of a series of workshops that started in 1995 with the aim of fostering interdisciplinary discussions and research in all aspects of multimedia information systems, in all their diversity. MIS 2001 will be held in Capri (Italy), November 7-9, 2001. MIS 2001 follows upon the success of the six workshops in this series that were held in Arlington (VA), West Point (NY), Como (Italy), Istanbul (Turkey), Indian Wells (CA) and Chicago( IL). The aim of this workshop is to bring together experts in all aspects of multimedia information systems, digital media content, multimedia database systems, networking, real-time systems, graphics and visualization, artificial intelligence, and algorithms. For this workshop we received about 50 papers submitted from about 10 countries around the world. More then 20 reviewers were proposed by the members of the program committee. Each paper was sent to three reviewers whose expertise matched the topic of the papers. It was decided to accept 20 high quality research papers. During MIS 2001 we will have two invited talks by V.S. Subrahmanian and Maria-Luisa Sapino, 6 research sessions on Image Retrieval, Query Processing and Indexing, Multimedia Presentations, Multimedia Information Retrieval, Multimedia Networking and Streaming, Data Models, and a panel session about the new trends in Multimedia Computing.
