Human Factors Design Guidelines for Multifunction Displays

Abstract

References related to the design of multifunction displays are summarized into a series of human factors design guidelines. These are presented in a number of sections, which include: general guidelines, the design process, air traffic displays, weather displays, navigation displays, MFD menu organization, automation, individual displays, and general design principles for aircraft displays. Particularly relevant data graphs are included to illustrate some of the recommendations. These sections are followed by samples from the extant body of guidelines and standards.
