Generalized Active Agent System for Extending the Active Capabilities of Relationship Database System (RDBMS)

Abstract

The objective of this effort was to investigate knowledge base management integration techniques for extracting intelligent information for a network-centered C4I environment. This report describes the problem of re-structuring a traditional database system into a true active database system without changing the semantics of the underlying system. The approach described provides a generalized event definition mechanism which extend the active capabilities of a RDBMS. This, in turn provides the mechanism whereby active database semantics can be supported on an existing SQL Server by an ECA Agent inserted between the SQL Server and its clients. Both a demonstration and results are also described.
