Foreign Terrorist Threat to Singapore: An Assessment

Abstract

Singapore has not had any domestic terrorist group since resolving the communist insurgency in the 60s and 70s, and it is likely to remain so. It has, however experienced several terrorist attacks by foreign terrorists. This paper, therefore, makes an assessment on the likely foreign terrorist threat to Singapore, by studying five main phenomena in Asia that tends to result in terrorism: communist insurgency, ethnic/religious separatism, religious extremism, international terrorism, and political rivalries. It also highlights some vulnerabilities of Singapore to terrorist attacks. It is the author's assessment that international terrorism, and political rivalries.
