Can the Marine Corps Overcome the Obstacles of Effectively Supplying the Small Infantry Unit in the 21st Century Urban Conflict?

Abstract

This paper examines the unique logistics requirements of Urban Warfare as identified by lessons learned from recent modern urban conflicts. The Israeli military invasion of Southern Lebanon (1962), British military actions in Northern Ireland (1969-76), Russian military operations in Chechnya (1994-96), and Marine actions in Hue City, Viet Nam (1968) are among the major cases studied. The paper then matches these requirements to current Marine Corps experimental programs designed to improve capabilities to prosecute the Urban conflict.
