USAF Theater Air Control System: Where Do We Go From Here?

Abstract

What will the Theater Air Control System (TACS) need to do to remain a viable and capable part of the Air Force's Command and Control (C2) system of the future? The USAF is in the midst of some significant changes as it approaches the start of the new century. Among these changes is the new Expeditionary Aerospace Force (EAF) concept. This concept, which is quickly becoming reality and Air Force doctrine, requires a leaner, more expeditionary force with a leaner and yet significantly enhanced C2 capability. Major strides are being made to modernize C2. The TACS is going to need to undergo the same type of modernization if it is going to continue to be a viable link to the theater commander's C2 capability. By modernizing TACS and C2 with respect to the requirements posed by the EAF, the Air Force can produce an Aerospace Power capable of full integration into the Joint Warfighting environment of the future.
