Medical Operational Requirements in Support of the OPLAN

Abstract

The Director, Medical Resources, Plans and Policy Division asked CNA to determine the capabilities and limitations of the primary Casualty Receiving and Treatment Ships (CRTSs) and Hospital Ships (T-AHs) and how they will be used in support of OPLAN. The analysis calculates the requirements for medical personnel and compares them with the platform's capabilities. It finds that, given the base set of casualties, the CRTS treaters would not be stressed. On the hospital ship, however, many subspecialists will experience stress the first few days, especially on the first day that casualties arrive.
