Military Services Physical Fitness and Weight Management Database: A Review and Analysis

Abstract

This report documents the current state of the U.S. military services' physical fitness and body composition programs and data collection. The policy and governance of these programs are introduced and the methods of implementation and the roles of service members to meet the standards declared by each respective service are explained. The possibility of creating a central database that will be responsive to data collection and reporting requirements in the upcoming revised Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1308.3 is discussed and a notional database is defined and presented as a potential Department of Defense (DoD) system.
