Analysis of Flood Control Operation of the Iowa/Des Moines River Reservoir System Using Linear Programming Techniques

Abstract

This report presents methods, results and conclusions from the reservoir system analysis of three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects on the Iowa and Des Moines River system. A flood control linear programming model was developed and applied to perform the analysis. The objective of the study is to address questions related to flood control operating policies followed by the USACE Rock Island District. Another goal of the study is to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the linear programming model for this type of study.
