Virginia's Governmental Information Security: A Guide for Commonwealth Executives after September 11, 2002

Abstract

The events of September 11, 2001, highlighted en increased need for information technology (IT) security not only for business end federal executives, but for state government executives 55 well. This increased urgency end heightened awareness left many of Virginia's government executives asking the question, "How secure end prepared is the Commonwealth to deal with information security attacks?" This report provides brief overview of the Commonwealth's security situation end offers executives end managers low budget actions that can be taken to begin addressing the added responsibility created by these threats, with a specific emphasis on electronic attacks. The purpose of this Pepsi is to help the leaders in the Commonwealth understand the security posture of their organization en they can effectively suggest improvements where necessary.
