Alcohol and Wine in Health and Disease Conference

Abstract

Topics covered at the conference included: 1) a review of the latest epidemiological evidence about the relation between alcohol and cardiovascular disease; 2) a series of detailed analyses of the components of wine that may account for its healthful benefits; 3) a discussion of theories about just how wine and other alcoholic drinks work to protect the heart or may help in fighting cancer and other degenerative diseases; 4) an analysis of the risks of drinking (i.e., the possibility of alcoholism and alcohol-induced disease and organ-damage) versus the health benefits of drinking.
