Aron-Clausewitz: A Continuing Debate (Aron-Clausewitz eine fortlaufende Dabatte)

Abstract

The study by Malis (the text of the French original follows the German translation) involves a reading of French political thinker Raymond Aron in light of the latter's teachings and interpretations of Carl von Clausewitz, most notably Vom Kriege ("On War"). The work is presented with great emphasis on Aron and the intellectual climate in which he lived, especially how he presciently proposed the strategies that would result in NATO and, in principle, the EU. Malis stresses that Aron's use of Clausewitz's works rendered him the "re-discoverer" of the German's insight into military strategy and mad von Clausewitz to the 2lst century.
