Die Tschechische Republik auf dem Weg in die Europaeische Union (The Czech Republic on the Way into the European Union)

Abstract

This study by two Polish scholars serves as an excellent profile of the Czech Republic's legal and functional structure, as well as its status with regard to entry into the European Union. The topics broached include: the economic development in the Czech lands in light of the transition to a market economy all over Eastern Europe; the compatibility and requirements for EU entry; the peculiarities of and basic principles, tights, and freedoms incorporated in the Czech constitution; parliament's power, organization, and functions; the office of the president; the composition of the government as a whole; the constitutional and supreme courts. The Czech constitution of December 1992 is included in a twenty-three page appendix.
