Advanced High Frequency Communication and Optoelectronic Radar Systems

Abstract

We have demonstrated photonic time-stretching (PTS) of radio frequency (RF) signals using our novel polymer modulators and two techniques to reduce the power penalty from the effects of fiber chromatic dispersion. A Single-sideband (SSB) modulator configuration has almost eliminated the effect of this penalty without bandwidth limitations. The dsb( (DSB) modulator configuration, with an alternative quadrature bias point, has also shown significant improvement of bandwidth limitations for a given fiber link length. In addition, we have investigated the general characteristics of the power penalty's relation with several modulation schemes.
