A Pilot-Scale Evaluation of Polychlorinated Biphenyl Bioremediation Technologies at Cape Canaveral Air Station, Florida
Abstract
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a group of chemicals possessing chemical properties that make them attractive for use in a wide variety of industrial applications. Their widespread use has led to their introduction into the environment. The Air Force has a number of sites that are contaminated with PCBs. This contamination has typically resulted from leaks and spills of electrical transformer cooling with that contained PCBs. The potential harm posed to human health and the environment has prompted the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and state regulatory authorities to set maximum allowable PCB concentrations at a site.
