Bundeswehr und oeffentliche Meinung(The Armed Forces and Public Opinion)

Abstract

The study focuses on public discussions regarding the German Armed Forces in 1997 and involves three aspects in the form of a representative survey: the deployment areas of the armed forces; the appearance of the armed forces; the image of the soldier. The survey involved 50 theme-based, 11 statistical and three personal-choice questions, lasted about 30 minutes, and was conducted "fact-to-face". The differing opinions culled from the survey indicate, according to Spangenberg, "subjective political interests and orientation", and not national interests.
