Selected Aspects of a Total Quality Management in an Army Hospital (Ausgewachlte Aspekte eines Total Quality Management in einem Bundeswehrkrankenhaus)

Abstract

Total Quality Management is a long-term, integrated concept that covers all aspects and all levels of responsibility, an essential part of which is the continual improvement of how the business is run. Permanent monitoring, client orientation, highly involved teamwork, and self-development all factor into the "quality circle", which measures the increasingly improving results. The study stretched from October 1998 to March 1999 in an unnamed army hospital, with the goal of pinpointing organizational weak points and developing suggestions for improvement. The aspects under scrutiny were: the work routine in the central operating-room; the work routine in central sterilization; and the "hotel" and service quality of the hospital.
