A Method for Estimating the Mechanical Properties of a Solid Material Subjected to Insonification - Part 1: Theory

Abstract

A theoretical inverse method is develop to measure the complex, frequency deponent dilatational and shear wavespeeds that are present in isotropic thick plates. Once this wavespeeds are identified, the complex, frequency dependent Young's and shear moduli and complex, frequency-dependent Poisson's ratio can he estimated. Simulations are presented both with and without noise to show how the method works and how the measurement error affect the analysis results.
