Glossary and Catalog of MeT Data Representation

Abstract

The present short report is intended to catalog the major digital formats in wide use for representing meteorological data. Each data format discussed is briefly defined, and references are given to more detailed discussions of the format. The author intends to follow this report with another that discusses the most important formats used for satellite data in considerably greater detail. No claim is made that the list of formats given is exhaustive, and the author would appreciate readers calling his attention to important formats that have been neglected or overlooked for incorporation into future editions.
