The California Central Coast Research Partnership: Building Relationships, Partnerships and Paradigms for University-Industry Research Collaboration

Abstract

The primary focus of this initiative is to forge a strong link between private sector R&D and University applied research, to speed the development of new knowledge and the transfer of technology to the public and private sectors. To this end, communications infrastructure and new R&D facilities have been developed. Relationships with private companies engaged in R&D have been advanced. Important research has been carried out in areas of interest to the Department of Defense and national security. These areas include, computer hardware and software development, aerospace engineering, military field applications, remote sensing, data compression, expert systems, disaster management, photovoltaics and biofilms.
