Abstract

This Strategy Research Project (SRP) has an aim to describe the long term planning process for the development of future structure of the Slovak armed forces. The aim is to describe the key features that made Slovakia's approach unique and that could in a general sense inspire planners of other countries. A very important step was an independent external defense assessment and defense review conducted by US and NATO teams. The subsequent assistance of Cubic Applications, Inc. (CAI) in the long term planning process was also critical. The output of the long term planning process was a set of strategic documents that included The Military Strategy Of The Slovak Republic", The Organizational Structure Of "The Ministry Of Defense Of The Slovak Republic", The Armed Forces Of The Slovak Republic - Model 2010" and The Long-term Plan of Structure and Development of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic." The next important aspect was the planning structure of the long term planning process that included all elements of the Slovak military, as well as advisors from the US, UK, Germany, and France.
