Role of Heregulin in the Neovascularization of Breast Carcinoma Cancer
Abstract
Accumulating evidence supports an association between angiogenesis and the processes of tumor invasion and metastasis In this way, several angiogenic factors and their receptors have been identified as important mediators of angiogenesis (1). We as well others have accumulated evidence suggesting that HEREGULIN (HRG), a growth factor involved in the progression of breast cancer to a more malignant phenotype (2-4), also is a potent stimulator of in vitro growth of a special blood vessel cells found in the umbilical cord, called HUVEC (Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells).
