Laser Eye Protection Groupware Application Information System

Abstract

Information systems are becoming increasingly more important for effective functioning and competitiveness of scientific research groups, such as our laser eye protection (LEP) team. The Lotus Notes(copyright) application software has been used as part of an information system pertaining to LEP research at Natick. This system was created to provide an interactive information resource for our team. Establishing an information system (IS) was motivated by a February 1997 review of the LEP program by Natick's Senior Technical Advisory Council (STAC). The STAC identified a need for an increased accessibility of in-house LEP information to assess the effectiveness of the current program and also provide a resource to facilitate planning future directions of the research. Consistent with this requirement, this database emphasizes in-house work and collaborations associated with this work. This report describes this LEP information system and demonstrates the capabilities of this system to facilitate LEP research efforts.
