July 2002 Status of Forces Survey of Active-Duty Members: Overview of Findings

Abstract

The Status of Forces Surveys (SOFS) is the Web-based component of the Human Resources Strategic Assessment Program (HRSAP) administered by DMDC for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (OUSD?P&R!). HRSAP is designed to measure the attitudes and opinions of the entire DoD community--Active and Reserve Service members, their families and DoD civilian--on the full range of personnel issues. The July 2002 active duty SOFS was the inaugural survey in the newly established program. The overarching topics for this survey were satisfaction and retention. This report provides an overview of results obtained from the survey. Sections of the report focus on the different survey topics and presents results by demographic subgroups. Background information, survey methodology and analytical procedures are briefly discussed in the introduction of this report.
