A Database for the Study of Marine Mammal Behavior: A Tool to Define Their Critical Habitat and Behavior

Abstract

A bibliography of all published literature on the diving behavior and tracking of marine mammals was compiled then transferred to an electronic database. The database contains data for 24 pinniped species, 16 cetaceans, the dugong, and the otter. In total, there are over 1,8OO entries. In addition to creating the database, we also hosted a workshop that discussed issues concerning the creation of a common access archive to store diving and tracking data.
